Panama
Overall Risk: Low

Panama has year-round mosquito activity, with peak risk during the rainy season from April through December. The Darien Gap region, the Colon province, and the San Blas Islands carry the highest risk. Panama City has significant dengue exposure, while the Canal Zone and highland areas of Chiriqui have lower risk.

Dengue fever is the primary concern in urban areas. Malaria (P. falciparum and P. vivax) persists in the Darien region and indigenous territories. Chikungunya, Zika, yellow fever (sylvatic risk), and St. Louis encephalitis are also present.

Aedes aegypti drives dengue transmission in cities. Anopheles species transmit malaria in the Darien and rural eastern provinces. The Panama Canal Zone has historically been a focus of mosquito control efforts.
