Mozzwise Briefing

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Overall Risk: Low

Bosnia and Herzegovina has seasonal mosquito activity from May through October, with peak populations during the summer months. The Sava and Neretva river lowlands, the Posavina region, and wetland areas have the highest mosquito density. The mountainous interior has lower activity.

West Nile virus is the primary mosquito-borne disease concern, though cases are infrequent. Overall mosquito-borne disease risk is very low. The diverse terrain means coastal and lowland areas have more mosquito exposure than the highlands.

Culex pipiens is the dominant species. The river valleys and lowland agricultural areas support the highest summer populations.
