Mozzwise Briefing

Serbia
Overall Risk: Low

Serbia has seasonal mosquito activity from May through October, with peak populations during the summer months. The Vojvodina lowlands, the Danube and Sava river corridors, and wetland areas have the highest mosquito density. Belgrade and other cities along major rivers experience notable summer mosquito populations.

West Nile virus is the primary mosquito-borne disease concern, with Serbia reporting regular seasonal cases. The extensive river systems in the north support virus circulation. Overall risk remains low but is present in the lowland north.

Culex pipiens is the dominant species. The Pannonian Plain geography and numerous river systems create extensive summer breeding habitat.
