Mozzwise Briefing

North Macedonia
Overall Risk: Low

North Macedonia has seasonal mosquito activity from May through October, with peak populations during the hot summer months. The Vardar River valley, Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa lowlands, and agricultural areas have the highest mosquito density.

West Nile virus is the primary mosquito-borne disease concern, with occasional cases reported. Overall risk is low. The continental-Mediterranean climate supports moderate seasonal mosquito activity.

Culex pipiens is the dominant species. The Vardar River corridor and lake regions provide the main breeding habitat.
