Mozzwise Briefing

Slovakia
Overall Risk: Low

Slovakia has seasonal mosquito activity from May through September, with peak populations during the summer months. The Danube lowlands near Bratislava, the East Slovak Lowland, and river floodplains have the highest mosquito density. The Tatra Mountains and northern highlands have minimal activity.

West Nile virus is the primary mosquito-borne disease concern, though cases are infrequent. Overall mosquito-borne disease risk is very low. The continental climate and mountainous terrain limit the mosquito season.

Culex pipiens is the dominant species. The Danube floodplain and agricultural lowlands support the largest summer populations.
