Mozzwise Briefing

Montenegro
Overall Risk: Low

Montenegro has seasonal mosquito activity from May through October, with peak populations during the summer months. The Adriatic coast, the Skadar Lake area, and the Zeta Plain have the highest mosquito density. The mountainous interior has shorter seasons and lower density.

West Nile virus is the primary mosquito-borne disease concern, though cases are rare. Overall risk is low. The coastal Mediterranean climate supports longer mosquito seasons than the continental interior.

Culex pipiens is the dominant species. Aedes albopictus has been detected along the coast. Lake Skadar and the coastal lowlands provide the main breeding habitat.

Wear light-colored, long-sleeve clothing at dawn and dusk
