Croatia
Overall Risk: Low

Croatia has seasonal mosquito activity from May through October, with peak populations during the warm summer months of July and August. The Dalmatian coast, the Neretva Delta, and lowland areas around Zagreb and Slavonia have the highest mosquito density. Coastal tourism areas can experience significant nuisance biting in summer.

West Nile virus is the primary mosquito-borne disease concern, with occasional cases reported. Overall mosquito-borne disease risk is low. The warm Mediterranean climate in the south supports longer mosquito seasons than the continental interior.

Culex pipiens is the dominant species. Aedes albopictus has been detected along the Adriatic coast. The combination of coastal wetlands and warm summers creates favorable breeding conditions in localized areas.
