Mozzwise Briefing

Moldova
Overall Risk: Low

Moldova has seasonal mosquito activity from May through September, with peak populations during the warm summer months. The Dniester and Prut river valleys and lowland agricultural areas have the highest mosquito density.

West Nile virus is the primary mosquito-borne disease concern, at low levels. Overall mosquito-borne disease risk is very low. The continental climate and landlocked geography limit the mosquito season.

Culex pipiens is the dominant species. The river valleys provide the primary breeding habitat during the short summer season.

Precautions

Use DEET (20%+) or Picaridin-based repellent on exposed skin
Wear light-colored, long-sleeve clothing at dawn and dusk
Sleep under a permethrin-treated mosquito net if no air conditioning
Eliminate standing water near your accommodation
