Slovenia
Overall Risk: Low

Slovenia has seasonal mosquito activity from May through September, with peak populations during the warmest summer months. The Pannonian lowlands in the northeast, the Ljubljana Marshes, and coastal areas near Koper have the highest mosquito density. The Alpine regions have minimal activity.

West Nile virus is the primary mosquito-borne disease concern, though cases are rare. Overall mosquito-borne disease risk is very low. The small country and varied topography mean exposure varies significantly between the Alps and the lowlands.

Culex pipiens is the dominant species. Aedes albopictus has been detected in the coastal Primorska region. The temperate Alpine-Mediterranean climate limits the mosquito season.

Wear light-colored, long-sleeve clothing at dawn and dusk
